The Weekend Dish

Do you want to run away from home this summer?

I just found out there’s still time to register for The 26th Annual Iowa Summer Writing Festival.  With 138 weeklong and weekend workshops running from June 10 through July 27, you can select from fiction, poetry, nonfiction, screenwriting, fantasy, science fiction, or writing for children classes.

Iowa? You betcha.

The air, loamy and humid. Lightning bugs. Sweet corn.
Summer evening thunderstorms.
Banjos on Wednesday night at the Farmer’s Market.
Poetry readings at Beadology.
Full moon rising over the river while the treetops buzz with insect song.

Bonus Features?
Oasis, The Falafel Joint. Legendary falafel and hummus to write home about.
Prairie Lights. One of Flavorwire’s Top 10 Bookstores in the US.
New Pioneer Food Co-op. Artisan cheeses. Wine. Chocolate. Fresh cherries.
The Iowa Avenue Literary WalkBronze relief panels with literary quotes set in the sidewalk.

Oh yes. And time for writing and writing and writing and writing and writing.

p.s. Did you know Iowa City is the only Unesco City of Literature in the US?
